We have been doing window installation out of Garfield for 25+ years. West Milford is 21 miles north-west of the shop, in Passaic County — toward the outer edge of our area, so we group work out this way rather than pretending the drive does not exist. Either way we still answer when you call about the job two winters later, which is the part that actually depends on being local.
A window replacement is measuring every opening individually, ordering units built to those measurements, then taking out the old window and fitting and sealing the new one the same day. We work one opening at a time, so the house is never standing open and never left open overnight.
Passaic is really two counties. The southern cities are dense and old — turn-of-the-century multi-families and row homes packed close together. North of the reservoirs it turns rural, with lake houses and wooded lots that were often built as summer cottages and later winterised. Openings move over a century. Frames settle out of square, sills take water, and a window ordered off a standard size will not sit right in a house that has shifted around it. That is why we measure each one rather than measuring a few and multiplying.
Every opening gets its own measurement and its own price. If we take off the trim and find a rotten sill, you get a photograph and a figure before anything is replaced. The units are ENERGY STAR rated for the Northern zone, which is the specification New Jersey actually falls under.
